Located in the heart of South Minneapolis, the Sky Without Limits Community (Cielo Sin Limites in Spanish) is home to Black, brown and immigrant renters who came together in 2015 — in the face of deplorable housing conditions — to say: enough is enough. For 10 years, SWL members have organized to take buildings off the private housing market, and win community control over their homes.
Our community vision is more than just a group of 5 buildings. SWL represents a future beyond commodified for-profit housing. A future rooted in our ancestral practices, honoring our shared commitment to the Earth, to ourselves, and to one another. A future in which the profit-driven housing system is replaced with collective stewardship, cooperative governance & relationships of trust and care.
Our vision & future
Permanent housing affordability
We are committed to a future where tenants are not burdened by rent - that none of us are faced to choose between paying our rent or paying our medical bills.
Democratic governance
We steward SWL through committees which make decisions democratically and with input from the full membership.
